本研究では、生後6-7ヶ月の乳児を対象に、被験者内計画による2つの実験をおこなった。実験1では、2つの対象の運動における物理的因果関係を示したLaunching事象の因果性認知について、実験2では、対象の動きの目標指向性（心理的因果性）の認知について検証した。その結果、実験1でのパフォーマンスと、実験2でのパフォーマンスの間に関連がみられた。つまり、実験1において物理的因果性への感受性が相対的に高かった乳児は、実験2の心理的因果性課題においても目標指向性を認知しており、逆に、物理的因果性への感受性が低かった乳児は、心理的因果性課題においても目標指向性の認知が見られない傾向が示された。
Two experiments examined 6- to 7-month-old infants’ perception of physical casuality and sensitivity to goal-directed action, and relation between them. In experiment 1, I examined infants’ perception of casuality in Michottian type launching events. This experiment replicated previous studies showing that by 6-7 months, infants begin to respond to the interaction of the events on the basis of casuality. In Experiment 2, infants tended to interpret the actions of a self-propelled object as goal-directed. Moreover, it was suggested that infants who responded to the events on the basis of casuality in Experiment 1 performed better in Experiment 2 than infants who did not.
