2020年度には、新型コロナ禍にあり、研究活動が大きく制約される中、オンライン方式での研究シンポジウムの企画・運営・記録、非対面型のインタビュー調査、並びにアーカイブ研究活動を踏まえた学会研究発表に取り組んだ。　オンライン方式の研究シンポジウムは、芸術工学会夏期大会「行政とデザイン」であり、研究メンバーの黒田・青木が中心となり、海外から基調講演者、国内から研究発表討議者3名を招き、8月1日に実施した。第一部「日本のデザイン行政・振興活動の歩み」（黒田宏治、青木史郎）、第二部「豊かな社会を創るために－行政・産業・学術、市民の連携」（KunーPyo LEE)、第三部「政策をデザインする時代」（黒田宏治、橋本直樹、中山郁英、横山和人）の構成で、参加者は約80名であった。発表・討議記録は報告書に取りまとめるとともに芸術工学会誌に掲載した。　非対面型インタビュー調査は「89デザインイヤー運動に併走した5年間を振り返る」「1970年代前半の日本産業デザイン振興会」の2件で、それぞれA4・18頁、A4・7頁の内容である。調査記録の公表については検討中である。　また、アーカイブ活動を踏まえた研究発表は、2020年度は延べ9件行った。「デザイン振興政策アーカイブの構築」「｢'89 Design Year｣運動と地域への波及効果」「行政とデザインのこれからに向けて」など、雑誌論文5件、学会発表4件である（いずれも芸術工学会）。
