静岡文化芸術大学の重点研究領域が設定されてすでに10年が経とうとしている。これまでのテーマは一定の成果をあげてきたが、複雑かつ急速に変化する社会に合わせて、次の10年に向けた新たな重点研究領域の構築が必要な時期になってきる。また、両学部がより協働しやすく、かつ地域にとって実践的な重点研究領域の提案も必要である。両学部の有志による教員で、2年間にまたがって当大学に必要な可能性の高い複数の視点から研究を深め、2年目には絞り込んだ研究領域を提案するものである。
