江戸時代の静岡浅間神社を特徴付ける「二階拝殿」の建築形式と建築技術について古文書・古絵図による人文学的成果と、保存修理事業と連携した建築調査による科学的成果を合わせて検証し、「二階拝殿」の特異な建築形式と安政東海地震に耐え抜いた高度な建築技術を解明する。その背景にある駿府の建築普請活動の中でも持続可能な社会の仕組みに着目し、歴史学・民俗学の視点も加えた駿府社会の基礎構造を紐解き、神社境内における「二階拝殿」という存在に留まらす、駿府城下町や駿河国、富士山まで俯瞰した景観や都市研究に発展させる。
