本研究は、環境問題に配慮した衣生活様式を支援・推進するための環境学習プログラムの開発を目標とする。ここでは、地球環境問題として「資源の枯渇」と「紫外線の増加」に着目し、それに関わる衣生活の課題として、「資源としての繊維製品の有効利用」と「繊維製品による紫外線遮蔽効果」を選定する。環境学習の具体的題材としては、「繊維製品のマテリアルリサイクル」「紙おむつ・ペーパータオルなどの吸水性衛生材料の消費とリサイクル」「紫外線遮蔽性繊維製品の有効利用と健康な衣生活」を取り上げる。まず、これらの題材について、消費者(学習対象)が持っている環境問題に対する意識と消費行動との関係を捉え、その実態と問題点を明確にする。また、これまで研究報告している繊維製品の性能評価方法に基づいて、題材とした繊維製品の性能評価を行ない、科学的根拠に基づく繊維製品の使用に関する具体的指針を提案する。さらに、これらの成果を集約して環境学習プログラムを開発し、附属中学校・小学校等で、授業実践を行ない、その実用性を評価して、環境保全型の衣生活に向けて消費者の実践的態度を養うための科学的根拠に基づいた環境学習プログラムを提案する。
