This paper examines the e ect of the reduction of an import tari on the Japanese shery industry by using a computable general equilibrium model. Being against ourcommon knowledge, our simulations with very realistic conditions show that both ofthe domestic consumers and the domestic shery industry can gain by the subsidy (anegative tari rate) policy, and also that income of the shery industry would increaseby trade liberalization when all possible linkages of economic activities are taken intoaccount by a general equilibrium framework. Our results suggest a possible situationthat there is no political conict between the domestic shery industry and the domesticconsumer.
