現場指示におけるソ系の指示語の用法は、聞き手用法と中距離用法に大別される。従来、聞き手用法が現れる場面を人称区分型と、中距離用法が現れる場面を距離区分型と呼んで区別してきた。しかし、この2つの型だけを見ている限りは、聞き手用法と中距離用法を統一的に説明することは困難である。このような統一的な説明は、他言語との対照などにおいて重要となってくる。そこで本稿では、人称区分型と距離区分型が分化する前の中間型に焦点を当て、これを端緒に両用法の統一的説明を試みた。その結果、ソ系の原初的な性質を[―近称]であることを導き出した。
