• Note (General): The purpose of this paper is to answer the following questions: in the 2010s, how did sexual norms surrounding women change compared to the 1970s and what kind of reality about sex do young women have? In The Vagina Monologues (1996) by Eve Ensler, women challenged the taboo to say “vagina” with panache, because it has been demanded that women are sexually obedient. Today, the taboo still exists and women in Japan have not claimed the names of their reproductive organs. What kinds of difficulties still make women sexually obedient into the 2010s and how can we resist these difficulties? To answer this question, I analyze the women’s liberation movements in America and Japan in 1970s to examine the significance of women's sexual organs to women in visualize the violence against women as a social problem and to gain sexual agency Then, I explore the secular trends from the 1970s through the 2000s in Japan, about sex in anan, a Japanese women’s magazine. In 2000s, young women’s sexuality has become the capital for themselves and they have been demanded that they have the viewpoint of the manager about their sex. I labeled this sexual-norm “Neoliberal Sexuality”, which replaces the male-female gender conflict with the women’s self-responsibility as a social problem. Finally, through analysis the contents of the “ZINE”, which was produced by young feminist activists in the 2010s, I examine how the young feminists opposed to Neoliberal Sexuality are using the same methods as those of the feminists in 1970s like consciousness raising (CR). I conclude that Neoliberal Sexuality has led women to be sexual subordinates “spontaneously” and is the new phase of the sexual control. However, women’s talks and studies about their bodies, especially sexual organs, based on their experiences can be the source of the resistance against this control.
