中国・河北省淶源県は，山西省との省境地域，太行山脈中の小盆地である。日中戦争勃発後，同県は，察南自治政府・晋北自治政府および山西省と接する地点に位置し，同時に八路軍が太行山脈を拠点に華北平原に展開するうえで重要なポイントにあったため，日本軍と八路軍との間の典型的な係争地域となった。このことは，戦争前期に同県で起った事例―(1)黄土嶺戦闘と阿部中将の戦死，(2)ノーマン・ベチューンの記憶，(3)日本軍の拠点・東団堡の奪取，(4)王二小言説の形成と展開―がいずれも単なる地方事件ではなく，中国抗日戦争全体（あるいはその語り）に関わる出来事であったことによって示されている。本稿では，日中戦争前期の淶源県の実態を，a.中共淶源県委員会が作成した数件の報告書，b.「楊成武回想録」などの回想資料，c.「淶源県志」「中共淶源県組織史資料」などの編纂資料によって復元するとともに，上述の4 事例が「戦争と革命の記憶」として今日の淶源でどのように定置されているのかを確認する。
