Note (General): 本稿は、1975 年～2012 年（38 年間）にわたる都道府県の公教育費データを対象にダイナミックパネル分析を適用し、高齢者の公教育に対する選好を教育段階別に明らかにしている。本稿の分析によると、90 年代以前は、高齢者は公教育費の増額を概ねどの教育段階でも支持する傾向にあった。とりわけ高校教育や大学教育といった高い教育段階への公的支出が支持されていた。一方、2000 年代、政府債務の増加が問題となり、歳出改革が本格化するなかで、高齢者は、幼稚園や小学校など初等教育への支出を支持しないという選好を示すようになっていることが分かった。急速に高齢化が進むわが国において、本稿の分析結果は、財政逼迫下の望ましい公教育費の水準や教育段階別の配分といった規範的な分析および政策議論を行う前段階として有益な資料を提供するものである。
