Note (General): 本研究は、世界半導体企業58 社の2001 年から2013 年までの財務データを用いて、半導体企業の営業利益決定要因を調査・分析したものである。半導体産業は、1950 年代に発生し、その後60年以上、製品の性能向上、経済性向上を同時、持続的に成し遂げ、更に複雑化、多様化の方向に進み、今なお拡大を続け、現代社会に大きな影響を及ぼしている産業である。しかし、市場規模の変動は大きく、利益も売上高上位企業に偏在している。本研究は半導体産業を取扱う経済学・経営学領域での基礎となり得る研究を目指し、財務データという客観情報をもとに、パネルデータ分析統計解析手法を用いて、営業利益の決定要因を明らかにした。一般的に言われているように、利益を上げるためには売上高を上げなければならないが、半導体企業の場合、取扱製品群数を増やして売上高を上げても利益は逆に低下するということが示された。また、近年、Fabless 企業の躍進が目覚ましいが、Fabless-Foundry モデルが適しているのは、半導体製品群の一部製品群であって、多くの製品群ではビジネスモデルに有意差はないという結果が得られた。
