本研究は，公文式学習の公立中学校への導入とその効果について定量分析を試みるものである。2007年から「全国学力・学習状況調査」が実施されるようになり，全国各地の自治体で学力向上をもたらすと考えられる具体的な要因の分析に関心が高まりつつある。本研究では，困難校といわれたある中学校で，教育課程外で実施された公文式学習の導入に注目し，それが学習姿勢や非認知能力の形成にいかなる効果を発揮しているのかを検証する。分析の結果，中学校での公文式学習の実施は，中学生の学習姿勢（類推する姿勢，軌道修正する姿勢，身近な目標意識）を向上させていることが明らかになった。また，これらの学習姿勢は，ある種の非認知能力（処理力，修正力，思考力）と学力試験の得点の両方を上昇させることも明らかとなった。本研究の分析結果からは，学習姿勢の改善を通じた学力の向上という点で，教育課程内の教育に加え，教育課程外で公文式教材を用いることの有用性が示唆される。
