大阪大学大学院工学研究科附属超精密科学研究センターの大久保雄司助教、精密科学・応用物理学専攻の山村和也教授らの研究グループは、フッ素樹脂であるPTFE（テフロン）とシリコーン樹脂（PDMS）の強力接着を実現しました。さらに、その技術を応用して、「フッ素樹脂と金属」および「フッ素樹脂とガラス」を接着剤無しで強力に接着する技術を世界で初めて開発しました（図1参照）。これまでは、Na（金属ナトリウム）を含む危険な薬剤を使用してフッ素樹脂の接着性を向上させた上で、接着剤を使用してフッ素樹脂と金属およびフッ素樹脂とガラスとが接着されていました。しかし、その薬剤は作業者にも環境にも有害であり、さらに接着剤を使用して接着していたためVOCの問題があり、安全性が重視される医療分野や食品分野ではその利用が懸念されていました。今回、大久保雄司助教らの研究グループは、プラズマ処理によって両面を活性化させたシリコーン樹脂（PDMS）と既に開発済であった熱アシストプラズマ処理とを組み合わせることにより、危険で有害な薬剤を使用することなく、さらに接着剤も使用することなく「フッ素樹脂と金属」および「フッ素樹脂とガラス」の強力接着を実現しました。これにより、VOCを低減でき、かつ接着剤混入のリスクを回避できるため、医療・食品分野での応用が期待されます。本研究成果は、Nature Publishing Group（NPG）の英国科学誌「Scientific Reports」において、12月24日（月）19時（日本時間）に公開されました。
