本研究は,日本の農山漁村の集落空間に関する民俗分類体系(小地名・筆名・方位観など)が,住民の経済階層や性別役割に応じていかに異なるかについて,その世帯差・個人差の実態を明らかにした。あわせて,集落空間に対する住民の意味づけや分類を説明する際の理論的基盤の一つとなり得る,人文主義地理学の理論や視点について根本から再検討し,通説に異議を唱えた。
This study empirically clarifies differences in households' and persons' folk classification knowledge of settlement space such as minor place names, agricultural plot names, and orientations within Japanese villages. These differences are clarified based on an analysis of each household's economic class and each person's gender. The author also re-examines the common viewpoints of humanistic geography, which can lead to a theoretical basis for studies on spatial folk classification within villages both inside and outside Japan.
