Note (General): 沖縄キリスト教学院で30年以上も続く「ハワイ研修」の事前学習を充実させるために、「ハワイアン・スタディーズ」が新たに設置されることになった。本稿は、当該科目をデザインするにあたって、筆者のハワイ大学での経験やハワイにおけるHawaiian studiesの動向を概観しながら、あえて「ハワイ研究」とせず、「ハワイアン・スタディーズ」とした経緯や、コースの根幹とした理念（course approach）について述べることを目的としている。その際、特に当該科目の土台となった、Hawaiian Studies 107というハワイ大学システム全体で広く提供されている科目と、ハワイ大学の一般教養課程におけるカリキュラムポリシーから、特にハワイついて学ぶ科目の基準を定めるフォーカス領域に注目する。そして、そこから導いた、３つの理念的柱：? Native Voice（先住民の声、主体性）、? Intersection (交差性)、? Kuleana（責任、特権、立ち位置）について描写し、単に外からハワイを一方的にまなざすのではなく、先住民（indigenous）の視点を中心化した脱植民地主義の視座から沖縄を捉えなおす可能性について論じる。
