Note (General): 近年の北極域における海氷の減少傾向に伴い、北極海航路の利用拡大に向けた取り組みとして、北極海の海氷短期予測の重要性が高まっている。我々の研究グループでは、北極海航路のための夏季の北極海における海氷予測データに関する比較研究を進めている。昨年より、ノルウェーの気象研究所（Met Norway）でベルゲン大のナンセン環境リモートセンシングセンターが開発したTOPAZ4海氷海洋結合同化システム[Sakov et al. 2012]を用いた現業海氷予測が始まり、毎日10日先の予測データが提供されるようになった。このシステムは、同化手法としてアンサンブルカルマンフィルターを実装した唯一の渦解像の海洋・海氷結合モデルに基づいた北極海のデータ同化システムであることから、精度の高い海氷予測が実現されている可能性がある。TOPAZ4を含めた現業の海氷予測データがどの程度の予測精度を持つかを把握することは、予測データの実用利用やそれに基づいた北極海航路探索システムを構築する上で重要な課題である。本発表では、砕氷船の運行において最も重要な変数である海氷厚のモデルの再現性について、現場および衛星観測データとの比較を行った結果を紹介する。最後に、海氷・海洋結合データ同化システムを用いた予測可能性研究に関する今後の展望を紹介する。
Under the significant decreasing trend in summertime sea ice area in the Arctic Ocean, medium-range forecast for sea ice extent in the Arctic Ocean, particularly the East Siberian Sea is important issue for the Northern Sea Route. Our research group has investigated the prediction skill of operational sea ice forecast model as practical information for the shipping navigation in the Northern Sea Route. Recently, the daily-updated sea ice forecast data are publically available from TOPAZ4 ice-ocean data assimilation system developed at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center [Sakov et al. 2012]. TOPAZ4 is the only operational, large-scale, eddy resolving ocean data assimilation system that uses an ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF). Therefore, there is a possibility that the TOPAZ4 sea ice forecast data have a great potential for medium-range forecast of summertime sea ice in the Arctic Ocean. The evaluation of prediction skill for operational forecast sea data is crucial for the development of Arctic sea routes search system. In this talk, we will mainly show the sea ice thickness inter-comparison between TOPAZ4 reanalysis data and all available observed data (in-situ and satellite observation) in the Arctic Ocean. Finally, we will briefly talk on the future plan for the study on the predictability of sea ice condition in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans.
