『源氏物語』の注釈・研究は、平安時代の世尊寺伊行の『源氏釈』以来、膨大な蓄積がなされて現在に至っている。その注釈・研究のスタイルは、こと近世以前に関する限り洞物語の表現がより所とする和歌・歌謡・漢籍・仏典などを、物語の表現の出現の順に指摘していく体裁を取るものが圧倒的多数を占める、と言ってよい。これは、注釈・研究の究極の目的が『源氏物語』の世界の、一層の味読であったことに由来する、必然的な事態であった。表現空間の本来の魅力は、時が過ぎ社会が変容し流通する文学作品が変遷するにつれ見失われていく。その魅力を取り戻すことに目的があったから、『源氏物語』の冒頭から末尾まで表現の出現順に注を付していき、その背景に暗黙の前提として存在するであろう理想的な表現空間を回復しようと試みるのである。しかし近世も後期に入ると、それらとは別の配列原理をもった注釈書があらわれてくる。大きく言って、和歌集的な配列をもった注釈書と、辞書的あるいは類書的配列を持った注釈書とである。それぞれ前者は和歌実作上の必要と、後者は語学的興味と、何程かかかわって成立したと思われる。またその二つの注釈書群は、前記した物語表現の出現順に注記していく体裁を持たないことからすると、物語世界の味読からは一応離れて、物語を整理していこうとする志向も持っている、と考えられる。本稿では後者の、辞書的あるいは類書的配列を持つ注釈書を紹介しつつ、それらの注釈書の配列が古辞書の配列方法を参考に実現していることを探ってみたい。
