- 生涯学習社会におけるリテラシーとしては、学校教育で培われる読み書き計算などの基礎的な学習能カに加え、社会の変化に伴って生じてくる生活や文化的課題を速行する学習能力が求められよう。とりわけ、高度情報化による種々のメディアの広範囲への普及に伴い、メディアにアクセスし、それを活用したり、そこから得られる多岐に亘る情報を取捨選択するなどの新しい学習能力、すなわち「メディア・リテラシー」が必要とされる。 本研究は、平成10年度～13年度の国立教育研究所の特別研究として行われるもので、生涯にわたって必要とされる、メディア・リテラシーを研究対象とするものである。その目標としては、メディア・リテラシー概念についての理論的研究を端緒とし、学校教育や社会教育において、メディア・リテラシーに関してどのよう取り組みや指導がなされているか、メディア・リテラシーが児童生徒や成人にどの程度習得されているかなどについて、実証分析も行うことにより、今後の学校教育、生涯学習社会におけるメディア・リテラシーの研究の方向性を探ろうとするものである。 本研究会は、所内外の36名の研究者により構成され、「学校教育班」「社会教育班」「比較教育班」の3研究組織に分担されている。本報告は、「学校教育班」による中間報告である。本報告書は、学校教育の視点からのメディア・リテラシーの捉え方を考察した上で、小学生、中学生、高校生がどのようなメディアを所有し、どのように利用しているか、また特に、どのようにメディアを活用しているか、あるいはできるか等を分析することを主たる目的としている。
