- 本検討会では、まず60 を超える都道府県や政令指定都市において「生涯学習情報提供システム」を運用していることを把握した上で、講座や講演などの学習機会、公民館や図書館などの情報がインターネットで提供されていることなど、生涯学習情報提供の現状を整理した。そして、生涯学習情報の整理の仕方の一つとして、国が保有している情報、地方が保有している情報、情報収集・加工によってできる情報に分類整理した。また、生涯学習者の立場としては、学習者、学習者兼企画者、企画者（提供者）に分けて生涯学習情報を整理した。次に、現在インターネットで情報を提供している25 箇所の生涯学習機関を対象に合計で約12 万件を収集して、それらを教材、各種資格に分類整理して、データベース化した。また、国の各府省等が提供する政策、学習機会、統計資料、資格･試験に関する情報を整理してデータベース化した。そして本検討会の成果である生涯学習情報は、NICER におけるキーワードによる検索を可能とした。
