- 本資料集は、全国の市区町村教育委員会で公表されている小中学校統廃合等に関連した文書を収集し、適正規模や適正配置等について記載のある353自治体を対象に整理、分析している。 この作業に関連して、これまで2冊の資料集を刊行している。 ・「市区町村教育委員会による公立小中学校の統合と再編に関連する答申類リストと内容の分析」（平成22年10月、国立教育政策研究所） ・「少子高齢化社会における小中学校の配置と規模に関する資料集（第二集）-附属資料」（平成22年3月、国立教育政策研究所） このたびの報告書は、これら2冊で手がけてきた資料収集、分析をさらに進め、全国市区町村教育委員会から送付を依頼し収集した答申類の実物の分析も加えた最終的な報告書に当たる。 そこで、今回の資料集にはこれまで公にした整理分析結果も取り込みデータを紹介している。 2009年4月から2011年10月頃までの間では、審議会等の答申類を作成している自治体は525確認できているが、そのうち、適正規模や適正配置などの記述がある自治体353について、データを紹介している。
