- 文部科学省において、高等学校教育改革の現状や高等学校学修指導要領の改訂（平成21年3月公示、平成21年度から一部先行実施、平成25年度入学生から年次進行で実施）、社会環境の変化等に対応するため、平成23年3月に高等学校施設整備指針が改訂された。これを受け、新たな高等学校施設整備指針の主な改訂内容についてわかりやすく解説した事例集として「これからの高等学校施設～高等学校施設整備指針の改訂を踏まえて～」が平成24年5月にとりまとめられた。事例集では、学校施設についての解説などに加え、実際に施設を利用している校長や教職員、生徒の声を写真や図とともに紹介している。本書は、この事例集を国立教育政策研究所文教施設研究センターで英訳したものである。なお、日本語版については、文部科学省のホームページ（http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/shisetu/seibi/main7_a12.htm）から閲覧できる。
