- 本研究の目的は，高等学校の数学において，組合せ論やグラフ理論などの離散数学，フラクタルやその周辺領域に関する数学（以下，「離散数学を中心とした内容」とする）について，新たな教材の開発およびその評価を行うことにある。具体的には，3年間の研究期間で，第1に，離散数学を中心とした内容において高等学校で学習可能な内容を選択･分析し，第2に，これらの内容に関する諸外国の教育課程や教科書の状況を分析し，第3に，第1，2の成果を踏まえつつ，我が国の「個数の処理」などの内容を発展させ，離散数学を中心とした内容の教材化を行い，第4に，それらの教材を教室において試行し，実際にどの程度の生徒に理解され，どの程度の生徒の興味や関心を高めるものになるかどうかを評価し，そして，第5に，我が国の高等学校の学習指導要領の数学において，それらの内容にかかわる新しい内容領域を設定することを提言する。
