- 持続可能な発展は，1987年以来環境に関する基本概念となっているが，持続可能な発展に関する科学教材として，環境への汚染が発生してからその原因物質を処理するのではなく，汚染物質そのものの発生を断つための原理と方法論である，グリーン･サステイナブルケミストリー（環境にやさしく持続可能な化学）の考えを広く適用し，単にある科学技術を利害両面から比較するだけでなく，歴史的な変遷より科学・技術者の環境に対する対応が，害が発生してからの処理から，害が発生しない過程へと，持続可能な方向へと変化していることを示す教材を開発する。この教材では，科学的に探究していくとともに新たな情報により判断を修正していく態度，科学的価値に対する信望，慎重に結論を導くとともに公正な判断を下そうとする意志など，社会における科学的な事象の問題解決に必要な科学的態度の育成を図るのに適した教材とする。その効果を，協力校で実践し一枚ポートフォリオ法などにより調査する。
