Note (General): 今回の調査で確認された遺構や遺物は４期に大別される。古墳時代前期では谷に向かう斜面に遺構や遺物が検出された。古墳時代後期から平安時代では竪穴建物と掘立柱建物を中心とした一般的な集落が確認された。鎌倉時代から平安時代では５段階に遺構変遷が把握され、宗教施設・屋敷・町場的な小区画の屋敷などが展開したと想定された。これらの遺構群は守護所下津との関連が注目されよう。戦国時代から江戸時代前半までは集落は途絶えるが、江戸時代後期では岐阜街道に面した屋敷が確認され、これが現在の下津新町につながるものと推定された。調査は当初「鎌倉街道周辺遺跡」として開始されたが、今回の調査区は推定鎌倉街道が通る自然堤防とは異なる河川による自然堤防上に立地しており、遺跡の内容も考慮した結果、「下津新町遺跡」という別遺跡として評価すべきと判断された。
