Note (General): 銭蔵東地区では、復元整備の対象となる古図に描かれた右掖門脇より外郭へ南北に延びる石垣などの遺構確認のための発掘調査を行った。その結果、対象した石垣（石積み２）の根石をほぼ確認し、遅くとも15世紀後半に造られ、部分的に改変された可能性は考えられるが、戦前まで存在していたことが分かった。この石垣は西面するものであるが、その内側には厚さ６ｍに及ぶ造成土もしくは遺物包含層が見られ、それは15～17世紀代に複数回に亘って形成されたものと思われる。これらの土層からは、陶磁器、瓦、塼、獣魚骨、貝殻などが多く出土している。　この造成土の一部に覆われた北面する東西方向の石積み１が確認され、16世紀前半～17世紀前半の間に構築されたと考えられる。この石積み１内側に堆積する15世紀後半～16世紀前半の土層からは、陶磁器や獣魚骨の他に、真珠層を包含したヤコウガイなどの貝殻が大量に集中する貝だまりが確認された。この貝殻はほぼ全て割り取られた破片となっており、1㎝前後の大きさに加工されたと考えられる小破片も非常に多く見られた。様々な分野からの指導助言をもらうことにより、この貝殻片は螺鈿加工時の残滓ではないかと考えることができた。　以上から、今回の調査において、16世紀ごろには首里城内で螺鈿が製作されていたことが明らかになった。なお、既に西のアザナ地区などでも出土していた鍛冶関連遺物の他、漆、未成骨製品なども見られており、城内に様々な工房があった可能性も想定され、首里城の機能や空間利用を考えるうえで重要な成果である。
