Note (General): 烏帽子形城跡は丘陵上に築かれた中世の城跡である。河内守護職であった畠山氏の分裂抗争や畠山氏と三好氏の合戦の舞台となり、天正12年には羽柴秀吉が紀州攻めに際し修築している。城の構造は主郭となる方形の２段の曲輪を横堀と土塁が二重に取り囲む。これまでの発掘調査により主郭の様相は明らかになりつつあったが、堀や土塁の様相は不明であった。今回の堀Dの調査により、堀の屈曲部において堀内障壁が検出され、防御機能が高められていたことが明らかとなった。また土塁⑤の下層からは曲輪が検出され、曲輪の縁辺部に土塁を築く改修の実態が明らかとなった。一方で想定された大出口や大手道は確認できなかった（EBS19-2）。城の北東尾根部に展開する平坦地の調査では、明確な遺構は検出されず、堀切Gを境に場内と城外が区切られていたことが判明した（EBS10-1）。曲輪Ⅱ東側中央部では、３つの遺構面を確認でき、山城形成期となる第３面では、曲輪Ⅱの東側平坦面は上下２段になり、下段縁辺部から礎石が検出された。また、その北側下方に、西側へ向かう道路の動線北側へと向けさせる平面鈎形に屈曲する段差を形成する虎口を検出した。第２面では平坦地に大きく盛土造成、世および改修による構造の変遷等を検討する上で重要である。
