Note (General): 勢武谷遺跡の集落域中央部に相当する部分、およそ850㎡を発掘調査。標高130mの丘陵頂部に位置する平坦面で、竪穴住居群8棟以上、土坑、集落域と外界を区画する目的で掘削された塀（柵）の痕跡など弥生時代後期末から古墳時代前期初頭を中心とする時期の遺構を確認した。出土遺物には、弥生土器・甑土師器のほか石器類がある。遺跡は周囲の状況、麓を通過していた交通路を一望のもとに見渡せる眺望に優れた場所に立地することから、交通の監視・情報伝達の中継等を目的に営まれたものと考えられる。亀山市教育委員会が実施した第2次調査の成果と併せ、高地性集落の構造や生活を知る上で貴重な資料を得ることができた。
