Note (General): 当遺跡は、宮川中流域右岸の段丘上に立地する。調査の結果、室町時代の道路２条、戦国時代の掘立柱建物７棟・井戸１基などを確認した。道路は当地の幹線道である熊野脇道から派生する枝道であり、集落内の通行とともに屋敷地や耕地を区画するものだった。現在の野添集落は熊野脇道を中心に屋敷地が散在する塊村であるが、遅くとも15世紀には、これに類似した塊村状の集落が成立していたと推測される。出土遺物では、戦国時代の井戸から出土した瓦質風炉が特筆される。本例は、大和産（大和系）瓦質風炉であるが、足が乳足となる点で全国的にも極めて珍しい。乳足の瓦質風炉は、城下町や城館、寺院など、多数の茶器を保有する遺跡で出土する傾向があり、本調査地付近にも茶の湯の空間をもつ有力者の館や、小規模な草庵が存在した可能性が高い。自然科学分析は、14Ｃ年代測定（縄文早期の炉穴出土炭化材、土器付着物）、黒ボク土の土壌分析等を実施し、縄文早期の古環境に関するデータを得た。
