Note (General): 郡山遺跡は二時期におよぶ官衙を中心とする遺跡として知られ、Ⅰ期官衙は7世紀中葉から末葉にかけての古代陸奥国建国に関係する「柵跡」、Ⅱ期官衙は多賀城創建以前の「陸奥国府」に考えられている。今回検出された竪穴住居跡や掘立柱建物跡は、時期的にもこの二つの官衙に併行するものが多く、隣接する西台畑遺跡とともに、官衙との直接的な関連をもつ集落と考えられる。その中でも北側の第167次・180次調査で検出された竪穴住居跡は、Ⅰ期官衙の時期を中心とすることが明らかになった。また、第167次調査ではⅡ期官衙の外溝の北西コーナーが検出され、従来確認されていた西辺および南辺に加えて北辺の存在が明らかとなり、Ⅱ期官衙の規模と構造が明らかになった。この外溝の底面付近からは、「荊棘轡（うばらぐつわ）」が出土している。東北地方では初の出土である。そのほか官衙との関連を示す遺物として、中空円面硯の把手部分が出土している。　第196次では、中世～近世の屋敷掘割りとみられる大型溝や、屋敷に関連すると思われる井戸跡・土坑などが検出された。この掘割りからは陶器・瓦質土器、石製品・木製品、動物・植物遺体など多量の遺物が出土している。また弥生時代中期中葉とみられる水田跡、土器のほか、弥生時代前期前葉の土器や、縄文時代後期後葉の土器がそれぞれ包含層中から出土した。
