Note (General): 中沢遺跡は、宮城県沿岸部の牡鹿半島中部に位置し、仙台湾に面した舌状丘陵に立地する大規模な集落遺跡である。東日本大震災からの復興事業（高台移転）に伴う発掘調査の結果、丘陵上部と斜面から縄文時代前期の竪穴建物跡、掘立柱建物跡、土坑、炉跡、遺物包含層などを検出した。　居住域は丘陵尾根部に形成され、複数の竪穴建物跡や掘立柱建物跡の多くが、長軸を中央に向けて、弧状に配置されていた。遺物包含層は大規模であり、丘陵の北側・東側・南側斜面に形成されており、十和田中掫火山灰を含む縄文前期前葉から中葉にかけての層が、良好な保存状況を呈していた。また、各層から土坑、土器埋設炉、地床炉などが複数検出され、異なった時期においてそれぞれに生活面が形成されていた可能性がある。　遺物は、多量の土器や土製品、石器や石製品の他、獣骨や魚骨が出土している。特に縄文前期前葉から中葉にかけての土器については出土量が多く、本県では類例が少なかった時期の良好な資料を蓄積することができた。石器・石製品についても、当該期に特徴的な剥片石器や、抉状耳飾、石刀、線刻礫が多数出土している。
