Note (General): 尾ヶ原遺跡では，縄文時代の各時期，弥生時代，古墳時代，古代の長期にわたる遺構や遺物が発見されている。その中でも遺構や遺物の多かったのが，縄文時代早期・晩期，弥生時代，古墳時代である。　縄文時代早期では集石遺構８基が検出され，早期中葉の石坂式土器が数多く出土し，中心となっている。また，格子目押型文土器と呼ばれる独特の土器も出土している。縄文時代晩期では，埋設土器２基と打製石斧や石錘の集中区が３箇所検出されていると共に，扁平打製石斧が多いという特徴がある。　弥生時代では，遺物の出土量は少ないが，遺跡の中の高い位置において黒髪式土器と須玖式土器の小児用合口壺棺が検出され，北部九州や中九州との密接な交流があったことをうかがい知ることができる。　古墳時代では，竪穴住居跡が８軒検出された。その中には須恵器と成川式土器が共伴している住居があり，南九州に広く分布する成川式土器の年代観を考察する手掛りとなるものである。
