Note (General): 柴崎大堀遺跡は，旧石器時代から江戸時代にかけての複合遺跡であることが判明した。主体となるのは，室町時代から江戸時代にかけて使用された城郭関連遺構で，320 ｍ以上伸びる堀とそれに伴う土塁である。堀は，複数回にわたって形状を変えており，堀の変化を追うことができる資料である。また，江戸時代に入ってからはその底面が墓域として利用された可能性がある。　柴崎大日塚は古墳と考えられていたが，調査の結果，江戸時代の塚であることが判明した。塚からは寛永期に当地方で深く信仰された胎蔵界大日如来像が出土しており，湯殿山大日信仰に関わる塚であることが分かった。その他，室町時代の宝篋印塔や五輪塔の部材が出土し，また同時期の方形竪穴遺構を確認しており，近隣にある柴崎片岡上館跡との関連が考えられる。
