Note (General): 外川江遺跡　薩摩川内市街地から北西に4km，川内川と高城川の合流地点から北に1.5kmさかのぼった，標高約4mの平地に位置します。高城川河川改修工事に伴って調査されました。縄文・弥生・古墳時代の遺跡です。縄文時代の北久根山式，津雲A式類似，西平式，松山式系，台付皿形土器をはじめ弥生時代から古墳時代の高橋Ⅱ式，成川式，免田式系土器や，小形彷製鏡，土製勾玉，ガラス製小玉，木器，石庖丁，石鏃，滑石製品，軽石加工品，石斧，磨石，敲石，線刻を有する礫，古代の須恵器，瓦，内黒土師器，青磁，古銭，円盤状土製品などが見つかりました。横岡古墳　薩摩川内市街地から北西に4km，川内川と高城川の合流地点から北西に約3kmさかのぼった平地に位置します。高城川河川改修工事に伴って調査されました。古墳時代を中心とする遺跡です。地下式板石積石室をはじめ，蛇行剣や人骨，鉄鏃，鉄剣，刀子，長刀，小刀，短刀，短剣，須恵器，土師器，銅製品のほか，縄文時代の遺物も少量出ています。
