Note (General): 鬼城山（鬼ノ城）は7世紀に築城されたと考えられる古代山城である。城内施設の解明を目的に調査を実施した。その結果、Ⅰ区では基壇状遺構や柱穴等を検出し、ここに城内施設が存在しことが分かった。また、土器溜まり1でまとまった須恵器・土師器が出土し、鬼城山の時期を考える上で貴重な資料を得た。Ⅱ区では、これまでよく分かっていなかった礎石建物群を調査し、新たに4棟の礎石建物の構造が判明した。Ⅱ区は平安時代にも山岳寺院の一部として利用されたと考えられ、関連する遺構・遺物が出土した。Ⅲ区では計12基の鍛冶炉とあわせて鍛冶関連遺物（鞴羽口、鉄滓、鉄製品など）を検出し、この地域が鍛冶工房であったことが分かった。Ⅳ区では第5水門背後と第3水門上流の土手状遺構を調査した。城内の土手状遺構の調査は今回が初めてで、ともに石垣をもつ堰堤であった。Ⅴ区は北門背後の丘陵に設置、平安時代の集石遺構や掘立柱建物を検出した。　今回の調査で鬼城山の城内利用の変遷を明らかにすることができた。
