Note (General): チャシコツ岬上遺跡は標高55 mの海岸段丘上に立地するオホーツク文化の集落跡である。遺跡からは31軒の竪穴住居跡、墓、土坑、配石遺構、廃棄層、遺物集中といった各種遺構が検出され、多くの遺物と共に夥しい量の動物遺体が出土した。出土した遺構・遺物から主にオホーツク文化終末期に営まれた集落とされ、放射性炭素年代と古銭(神功開寳)などの出土遺物の年代観に鑑みると、8~9世紀代に機能したと推察される。優れた眺望を有した拠点的な集落機能に加え、ヒグマなどの野生動物を対象とした儀礼的側面が強いことも本遺跡の特性である。また、オホーツク文化の遺跡では初例となる皇朝十二銭の神功開寳が出土しており、オホーツク文化集団の擦文文化を介した古代国家との交流の可能性が示された重要な遺跡である。
