Note (General): 弥生時代中期の竪穴建物・溝・土坑、奈良時代の溝、鎌倉時代の井戸、室町時代の堀・池・井戸、近世の土坑などを同一面で検出した。これらから、調査区付近は弥生時代中期には集落、奈良時代と鎌倉時代には寺院の存在が考えられ、室町時代には湯川氏の館が築かれ、近世後半頃には粘土の採掘土坑が掘削されることが明らかとなった。　弥生時代の集落は中期後半代のもので、調査区は集落の南東部に相当すると考えられる。建物は同時併存するものでなく、おおよそ3時期に分かれるものと想定できる。　奈良時代の溝からは道成寺創建時の瓦と同タイプの軒丸瓦が出土し、付近に白鳳期まで遡る寺院が存在し、これは『日本霊異記』に登場する「別寺」の可能性がある。　鎌倉時代の遺構は少ないが、谷状遺構から位牌などの木製品のほか土器類が多く出土した。以前からも六字名号を書いた笹塔婆などが出土していることからも。付近に浄土系寺院が存在した可能性が高い。　湯川氏館は、東を限る堀が見つかったことで、館の規模がほぼ想定できるようになり、東西約225ｍ、南北約200mの方形居館で、各地で見つかっている守護館に匹敵する規模であることがわかった。また、館の南東部には池泉を伴う庭園があり、その北側には堀を巡らした方形区画が存在することが明らかとなり、遺物の出土傾向から方形区画付近には武士儀礼を行う主殿や会所が存在したことが想定できる。
