Note (General): 南紀男山焼は文政10年（1827）から明治11年（1878）までの約50年間の比較的短時間に操業された窯場である。調査地区は、丘陵の南東斜面の下端部の池際で、窯本体ではなく、上部に存在したはずの窯の物原の下端一部、もしくは開墾による物原の遺物の２次（あるいは数字）廃棄地点にあたるものと思われる。斜面に大量の遺物を含んだ焼土や砂が互層になって堆積しているが、近年の開墾により大半が削平され窯にともなう可能性のある堆積層はわずかに残る。非常に多くの遺物が出土しているが、とりわけ大量に出土したのは窯道具で、匣、匣蓋と思われるもの、トチ、チャツ、天秤台、ハマなどがある。また、染付碗には「南紀男山」の銘の入ったものもある。
