Note (General): GLから150cm程度は撹乱により、調査はできなかった。撹乱直下から17世紀後半～18世紀後半の生活面（Ⅰ検）を確認した。そこから城下町が成立する以前の堆積層（Ⅴ検）まで１面ずつ調査を実施した。出土遺構から、各検出面の時期は、Ⅱ検が17世紀前半～18世紀中頃、Ⅲ検が16世紀末～17世紀初頭、Ⅳ検が14～15世紀・16世紀末～17世紀初頭、Ⅴ検が14～15世紀以前と考えられる。　今回の調査により、城下町成立時（16世紀末）の方形状区画の屋敷割りから、段階を経て、17世紀後半までに近世的な城下町に発展していく変遷が確認できた。これまで、城下町初期の様子が不明確であったため、町の歴史的変遷を検討する上で貴重な資料となった。また、Ⅰ・Ⅱ検では、絵図上に記されている御使者宿（公的な宿泊施設）に帰属すると考えられる遺構・遺物が確認できた。
