Note (General): [湯の里２遺跡要約] 遺跡はJR湯の里知内信号場・道の駅しりうちから南へ500m、知内川の資料である出石川砂岩の舌状台地上に立地する。湯の里２遺跡の2冊目の報告書となる。昭和58年度に津軽海峡線建設工事に伴い、（財）北海道埋蔵文化財センターによって1,661平方メートルの発掘調査が行われ、報告書（北埋調報18）が刊行されている。今回は北海道新幹線建設工事の防音壁工事に伴う発掘調査である。発掘調査範囲は舌状台地の先端部の84平方メートルである。遺構は、竪穴住居跡1軒、石囲炉・焼土5か所、剥片集中1か所を検出した。竪穴住居跡は縄文時代前期後半のものだる。石囲炉・焼土は1か所が石囲い炉、2か所が石囲炉の可能性があるものである。石囲炉（F-30）は晩期中葉もしくは前期後半、その他は、前期後半のものと考えられる。遺物は、土器2,725点、石器等1,323点の合計4,048点が出土している。土器は、縄文時代前期後半がほとんどを占め、次いで中期前半のものが少数出土している。石器はスクレイパー、たたき石、扁平打製石器が多く出土している。土製品は摺切土器片、焼成粘土塊、石製品は線刻礫が出土している。
