Note (General): 伏見城跡における豊臣期と徳川期の2 時期の石垣の存在と、遺構変遷が明らかとなった。豊臣期の遺構は、斜面下の石垣と、その西側の道路を挟んだ塀の支柱遺構がある。石垣は根石とその一部が残されていたもので、地上に出ていた部分は石垣表面が焼けて赤変し石爆ぜが生じ、路面も全面焼土や炭に薄く覆われていた。石垣の裏込めには、大型の割石を含む栗石が多数用いられていた。この焼土層は、慶長五（1600）年に伏見城が全焼した「伏見城の戦い」の焼土層と考えられるものであった。石垣の残りは現況で１段を残すが、根石がさらに約１ｍ余り3 段残存していた。石垣の特徴は、使用石材には花崗岩を含まず山科周辺の丹波帯の塊状母材を用いた、自然石と割石を組み合わせた割石積み石垣であった。徳川期の遺構は、豊臣期の石垣を埋め込む様に盛土整地した上面の西側前面に作られた石垣であるが、用いられた石材は全て残存しておらず、石垣設置溝と根石下の栗石や尻飼石等が僅かに残るのみであった。この石垣は、伏見城の廃城後に二条城や淀城に持ち運ばれたものと考えられた。また、石垣設置溝の西側には、焼土層を切る幅の狭い素掘り溝が１条と、それを壊す内幅60 ㎝の直線的な石組溝が１条設けられ、延長約50ｍを検出した。また、出土遺物では赤漆の上に金箔を貼った金箔瓦の出土や、五三の桐の豊臣家の家紋瓦が散見されるなど多数の瓦が出土している。このように今回の調査は、これまで知られていた花崗岩の石垣や石組溝が徳川期伏見城のものであること、徳川期の石垣に埋め込まれた豊臣期の伏見城の石垣や「伏見城の戦い」によるものと考えられる焼土層を発見した。
