Note (General): 普門寺旧境内は中世前期を主体とする山寺遺構で、愛知大学による分布調査、豊橋市教育委員会による測量調査・分布調査、発掘調査の結果、２つの本堂跡とそれに付随する多数の平場群、さらにその周囲の巨岩、中世墓群、経塚によって構成されることが判明している。　山麓付近の平場に重複する17Ａ区の発掘調査においては、戦国時代以降の断続的な平場の利用を確認した。丘陵斜面下位の平場群に重複する17B 区の発掘調査においては、中世前期と中世末から戦国時代における平場の利用、近世における墓と思われる石積みの構築を確認した。平場群間の沢の立会調査においても、中世前期を主体とする遺物が大量に出土した。
