Note (General): 石井要害跡は、米子市西部に位置し、加茂川左岸の標高29mの独立丘陵上に立地する。今回の調査は、出丸と称される丘陵の頂部平坦面の北東側とその北東側斜面の調査を実施した。既往の調査ではⅠ期からⅢ期の3時期に時期区分されていたが、今回の調査では、5面の遺構面を確認しており、従来のⅡ期がⅡ-1期からⅡ-3期に細分され、全体として5時期に時期区分されると考えられる。　Ⅰ期(15世紀後半)には、北東側斜面では頂部平坦面よりも4m下がった位置に腰郭7、9の2郭を構築し、さらにその北東側にも腰郭8を構築している。　Ⅱ期(16世紀前半から中頃)には、Ⅱ-1期からⅡ-3期の3時期に細分されるが、各時期がどれくらいの時期幅を有するかは不明である。Ⅱ-1期には北東側斜面では腰郭8を埋め立てて、腰郭9を北東へ拡張している。Ⅱ-2期になると、腰郭7は人為的に埋め立てられ、腰郭9の平坦面では掘立柱建物1棟、柵列1条が検出された。Ⅱ-3期には段状遺構1基を検出した。第2次調査では、腰郭を版築状に埋め立てる過程で上下に連続する3段の段状遺構を構築しており、その関係が窺える。続く16世紀後半は遺物が出土していないことから、城主が不在、あるいは廃城となったと考えられる。　Ⅲ期には、北東側斜面の平坦地は畑地化されたと考えられ、その排水用と考えられる現代の溝状遺構を検出した。
