Note (General): 2012年度から実施した出雲斐川中央工業団地造成工事に伴う埋蔵文化財発掘調査において、丘陵尾根上に位置する杉沢遺跡から、古代官道の特徴を有する道路遺構が見つかった。出雲市では、「古代山陰道」と推定される貴重な遺跡であるとの認識から、工業団地の造成計画を見直し、貴重な道路遺構の保存を決定した。　2014年度には、出雲市杉沢遺跡等古代道路遺構調査委員会を発足し、周辺の踏査、詳細な地形測量およびトレンチ調査を行った結果、尾根上を中心に１kmも伸びる道路が築かれていることが明らかとなった。この道路は『出雲国風土記』に記された「正西道」と推定され、丘陵上を縦走すること、丘陵尾根上においても、道幅・側溝・波板状凹凸面という古代官道の特徴を有すること、また、切土・盛土、切通しなど多様な土木工法が用いられていることが明らかとなった。　これらの成果から、2018年２月に第１期調査範囲は国史跡となった。今回は第２期として、史跡指定範囲の東側350m間の調査について報告する。
