Note (General): 能登半島西側付け根付近の海岸砂丘上に所在する古代を中心とする祭祀（さいし）遺跡である。　調査により発見されたのは，祭祀遺構とそれに関連する建物である。祭祀遺構は，焼土面や石組炉などからなり，銅鏡・鉄刀や多数の土器などが見つかった。また，祭祀を管理していたとみられる９世紀後半の大型掘立柱（ほったてばしら）建物群，溝と柵列で区画された神社的な性格のある掘立柱建物などを確認している。出土遺物は海獣葡萄鏡（かいじゅうぶどうきょう）などの銅鏡・帯金具（おびかなぐ）・銅鈴（どうれい）・銅鋺（どうわん）などの銅製品，鉄鏡（てっきょう）・鉄鐸（てったく）・鉄刀などの鉄製品，勾玉（まがたま），土馬（どば），斎串（いぐし），牛馬歯骨，二彩（にさい）・三彩（さんさい）陶器などがある。また，墨書（ぼくしょ）土器には，「宮」「宮厨」「司」「神」「奉」などがあり，神祇（じんぎ）信仰との関係が推測される。　文献では，古代から気多（けた）神社が存在したことが知られ，『万葉集』では越中（えっちゅう）国司（こくし）大伴家持（おおとものやかもち）が着任後に「気太神宮（けたじんぐう）」へ巡行した記載があるなど，律令国家から重視されていた。　寺家遺跡は古代を中心とする祭祀遺跡で，焼土遺構をはじめとする遺構は良好な状態で残っており，古代における祭祀遺跡の様相が明らかとなった。出土遺物の内容から祭祀には国家が関与したと考えられ，古代気多神社に関わりがあった可能性が考えられる。古代における神祇信仰のあり方を知ることのできる稀少かつ重要な遺跡である。
