Note (General): 一般国道8 号津幡北バイパスに係る11 次にわたる調査のうち、本書は第5 次調査の成果を報告するもの。加茂遺跡は、河北潟に注ぐ舟橋川が形成した三角州性低地～丘陵裾に立地する縄文時代～中世の複合遺跡である。奈良・平安時代は、延長約180 ｍの2 条の大溝により河北潟と古代北陸道能登支路がつながり、水陸交通の要衝に営まれた末端官衙、寺院、倉庫を含む拠点的集落となる。｢英太｣｢鴨｣｢賀茂｣等の墨書土器や、第6 次調査出土の「加賀郡牓示札」等の豊富な文字資料から、地方行政や交通の実態を知るうえで重要な遺跡といえる。第5 次調査では、上層（奈良･平安時代）で第1 〜 4 次調査につながる道路遺構、大溝に加えて、古段階の大溝流路、井戸（｢大寺｣墨書、斎串出土）や道路遺構廃絶後の河跡を検出した。また、下層･最下層（弥生時代中期後半～古墳時代前期）では、掘立柱建物、平地建物、溝等を確認した。総括では、第5 次調査の各層遺構の変遷を示した他、これまで刊行された本遺跡の文字資料等について基礎資料の集成と課題を提示している。
