Note (General): 当遺跡における発掘調査は、1981年に発掘調査が開始され現在も継続中である。当調査区は、池島監期地区の最初の本格的な調査である。既往の調査において、条里地割の変遷や、古墳時代?弥生時代前期中頃の水田面などの農耕関連遺構と古墳時代の初頭～前期および古墳時代中期後半～後期にかけての集落関連遺構などが重層的に検出されている。今回の調査は、縄文時代から弥生時代にかけての堆積物が非常に厚く、その他の堆積各時期の人為的行為によって大きく削平を受けており、古墳時代以降の各遺構面は遺存状況が悪かった。一方弥生時代についても、既往の調査で検出されてきた各時期の水田面のうち、中期後半の水田面は良好に検出したが、それ以外の時期については検出されなかった。しかし、当調査区では従来弥生時代前期中頃とされている土壌層を除去した第14-2b面から縄文時代晩期～弥生時代前期にかけてと考えられる遺構群が検出された。検出された遺構は、掘立柱建物・木棺墓・土器棺墓（弥生土器壺）・土壙墓などである。また、掘立柱建物東側の落ち込み部分では、弥生土器は僅かであったが大量の突帯文土器が出土している。当調査区で出土した当該時期の遺物は、弥生土器はほぼ完形の土器棺以外には少なく、突帯文土器が大半を占めている。木棺墓は、共伴遺物がなく時期が特定できないが、縄文～弥生時代への移行期の様相の一端を示す良好な資料と考えられる。
