Note (General): 遺跡は、淀川を見下ろす台地上に立地する。15の調査区において、縄文ないし弥生時代から近代までの遺物と古代から近代までの遺構を検出した。なかでも注目すべきは、奈良時代後半から平安時代初頭を中心とする集落跡と明治時代後葉から太平洋戦争終結までの陸軍の火薬庫である。　古代の集落跡からは、重複関係の著しい掘立柱建物群、溝、井戸、土坑、ピットなどの遺構と、須恵器や土師器といった一般的な土器に加えて、長岡京内の遺跡出土瓦と同范関係にある軒瓦、緑釉陶器や灰釉陶器なども出土した。　いわゆる禁野火薬庫（正式には時期によって出張所、弾薬庫、倉庫、兵器補給廠分廠）については、火工場、倉庫、石組溝、土塁、軽便軌道、厠、貯水池などの遺構を検出できた。これらは、「大阪陸軍兵器支廠禁野弾薬庫図」や「大阪陸軍兵器支廠禁野倉庫要図」などの記録と符合するものが多くあり、実年代の特定や構造物配置の変遷を検証することが可能な資料である。多数の砲弾、薬莢、薬包などの軍事関連遺物や、瓦、煉瓦、枕木、レール、大釘といった建築・鉄道関連遺物も、近代遺跡ならではの貴重なものである。
