Note (General): [吉毛遺跡要約] 吉毛遺跡は、室町時代から江戸時代にかけての埋葬跡である。出土遺物は土師器、陶磁器、銭貨、刀、鈴、数珠、金具、鉄釘、石塔類などである。造墓集団は、副葬品や墓の形態から農業や漁業を主な生活基盤にしていた在地の人々と考えられる。造墓活動は、14世紀の中ころから始まり、江戸時代の末期まで継続的に行われていたと推測できる。墓の中には、本遺跡で唯一確認した甕棺墓や県内最多の銭貨が埋納されていた墓、幼児の人骨とともに獣骨が出土した墓など周辺の遺跡では珍しい事例も確認された。また、県内の従来の年代観とは大きく隔たりのある土師器と青花碗が伴出した墓が確認された。今回の調査により、山口県東部における中・近世の墓制解明と共に、中世土器編年の確立のための貴重な資料となった。
