Note (General): [蜑住稲国遺跡要約] 北九州市の北西に位置する若松区はこれまで臨海に位置する立地を生かし漁撈を中心とする経済と考えられてきた。しかし、当該遺跡で古墳時代を中心とする水田跡が発見されたことにより、若松区の西半部に展開する有毛丘陵地に点在する小規模谷底平野において同様の水田耕作が行われていた可能性が高まった。当該遺跡は対象地を1区〜4区に分け調査を行っている。このうち最も良好な状態の水田跡を検出できたのは3・4区である。ここでは、地形の流れに沿い、まず谷の主軸に平行した東西方向の畦畔を造り、続いて南北方向の畦畔を設けて小区画水田面を造成している。また、2区では杭列の護岸を伴う大畦畔が検出されている。この大畦畔が築かれた場所は、谷地の開口部近くにあたり、南北両丘陵が接近し谷地が狭まる地形の変換点に位置している。水田の造成の開始は古墳時代前期と考えられ、7世紀まで使用されたと考えられる。また、北側丘陵裾部出土の土器により、丘陵の南側緩斜面上に弥生時代前期の集落跡が存在する可能性が高まった。
