Note (General): [北方遺跡第10・11次調査要約] 今回の発掘調査は、第10・11次調査にあたり、本遺跡のほぼ中央に位置する。発掘調査範囲は、民間の共同住宅新築工事のためによるもので、約271.80?の小範囲にとどまる。すでに遺構の大半は削平を受けていたため、第10次調査区で河川跡のみである。第11次調査区は、市教育委員会が遺構確認のため実施した試掘調査では、遺物包含層が2〜3層、深さ40〜60?の堆積が確認され、開発側と市教育委員会が発掘調査の協議中に、開発側が重機で遺物包含層を発掘調査範囲のみ故意に削平したため、後日、発掘調査を実施した時には、何も検出できず、4〜5日かかる予定であった発掘調査期間が1日で済んでしまった。開発側の悪質な埋蔵文化財破壊行為である。第10次調査では、河川跡から大量の須恵器、土師器片が出土し、その中に混じって弥生土器や製塩土器、中国製白磁碗、青磁碗などが検出された。中に特筆すべき出土遺物では、古墳時代後期の円筒埴輪片で、タガ部分が出土している。また、斜格子叩き目を施す平瓦片を出土しており、大量の須恵器、土師器の出土を勘案すると、役所的な建物が推定される。本遺跡の西側を北流する紫川沿いには、2〜3?毎に奈良・平安時代の平瓦片が少量ずつ出土しており、古代官道沿いの建物と考えられ、本遺跡も重要な意義を持つ遺跡であると言えよう。
